Workshop on Different Positions in Labour with UNICEF, Gujarat
Fernandez Foundation was invited by UNICEF Gujarat to conduct a workshop on different positions in labour.
The training was attended by 20 participants, including nurse midwives and 6 obstetricians from across the state. It was conducted from 21 July to 25 July 2019 at the Civil Hospital, Gujarat.
The training was facilitated by members of the Fernandez Foundation, namely:
- Inderjeet Kaur MSc, RM, RGN Director of Midwifery
- Manjula Macharapu Professional Midwife
- Diva Ramtiben Professional Midwife
Fernandez Foundation returned to Gujarat in January 2021 to conduct further training with the Gujarat government.

Training, Pune
On 25 March 2018, senior midwives Ms Jyoti and Ms Ramtiben from Fernandez Foundation conducted a workshop for 40 nurse midwives in Pune.
The full-day training consisted of 5 skill stations:
- Newborn resuscitation
- Effective communication skills
- PPH
- Shoulder dystocia and breech delivery
- Maternal mental health
Ms Jyoti focused on shoulder dystocia while Ms Ramtiben demonstrated breech delivery.
The workshop is part of a self-directed initiative to impart knowledge in obstetric emergency training to healthcare professionals across the country. The aim is to reduce preventable deaths.
The training was a follow-up to the Train-the-Trainer cascading initiative introduced at Fernandez Foundation by visiting professional midwives from the U.K.

Eight auxiliary nurse midwives and a doctor from the Foundation for Research in Community Health (FRCH), Pune, spent three days at Fernandez in October 2017 as part of their observership.
The team was posted in the labour ward and the NICU at our Bogulkunta Hospital and at Stork Home. Here, they learnt about respectful maternal care, natural birth, teamwork, and the organisational logistics of labour ward management. They expressed appreciation for their interactions and the learning they received from members of the Fernandez Foundation.

In September 2015, midwives from Fernandez Foundation conducted a workshop on Obstetric Emergencies Skills and Drills in Pune. The workshop was well-attended and had 40 nurse participants from across Maharashtra.
The training included 4 skills stations:
- Eclampsia
- Shoulder dystocia
- Neonatal life support
- Postpartum haemorrhage
It also included interactive sessions on estimation of blood loss, human factors in emergencies, and caution for the use of oxytocin in labour.
The delegates highlighted that the workshop provided a good learning environment and offered skills that they could take back to their respective workplaces.
