Dr Evita Fernandez, Chairperson, Fernandez Foundation, honoured with Rotary International’s Award for Vocational Excellence.

Hyderabad, February 4th, 2023: Rotary International honoured Dr Evita Fernandez, Chairperson, Fernandez Foundation, with the Vocational Excellence Award 2022-23 for her outstanding contribution to society in tune with their philosophy of “Service Above Self”. The award recognised individuals with a record of commitment and high achievement in their vocation, contributing towards the advancement of that vocation and the nation. Rtn. Raja Sekhar Reddy Talla, District Governor 2022-23 of Rotary International District 3150, presented the awards to all the winners at Rotary’s annual conference at the Sri Convention, Guntur.

Rotary International is a global network of business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and promote goodwill and peace worldwide.

Dr Evita is an obstetrician by profession and has enjoyed, for three decades,  the privilege of walking with pregnant women through their journey to motherhood. Her primary focus is on respectful maternity care and empowering women with the proper knowledge to make their own birthing choices. Her vision is to establish professional midwifery in India by increasing access to high-quality maternal care for women and reducing unnecessary C-sections.

. After managing the 70-year-old Fernandez Hospital for more than three decades, Dr Evita decided to convert the private organisation into a “Not-for-Profit” Foundation. The Fernandez Foundation has several initiatives that help deliver evidence-based and equitable care for women and children:

  • Fernandez Hospitals and Outpatient Clinics
  • Stork Home Hospital
  • Fernandez Child Development Centre
  • Fernandez Midwifery Initiative (PROMISE)
  • Fernandez School of Nursing

Dr Evita’s vision through the Fernandez Foundation is to ensure every pregnant woman has access to midwifery care and only if required, will seek collaborative care from obstetricians and other specialists.
