FOGSI-DHEERA AWARD

The FOGSI DHEERA Award recognised 80 obstetrician and gynaecologists across Telangana and Andhra States, who have contributed significantly towards improving maternal and reproductive health outcomes

Hyderabad, 12th October 2022: The Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) honoured Dr Evita Fernandez, Chairperson, Fernandez Foundation, with the FOGSI-DHEERA Award. The FOGSI DHEERA Award recognised 80 obstetrician and gynaecologists across Telangana and Andhra States, who have contributed significantly towards improving maternal and reproductive health outcomes and have created a nationwide impact. The award is a testament to the work that Dr Evita continues to do in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. Prof. S Shantha Kumari, President FOGSI, presented the award to all the winners at Hotel Taj Deccan, Banjara Hills.

This year’s award theme “FOGSI FOR ALL & ALWAYS and DHEERA – Stop Violence Against Women,” focuses on addressing the causes and risk factors related to violence against women and sensitize young adults and public at large on the aspects related to sexual and reproductive health.

Evita Fernandez is an obstetrician who for three decades enjoyed the privilege of walking with pregnant women through their journey to motherhood. She is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London. As Chairperson of Fernandez Foundation, her primary focus is on respectful maternity care for women. She believes women must be empowered with the right knowledge to help them make their own birthing choices.

After managing the 70-year-old Fernandez Hospital for three decades, Dr Evita decided to convert the private organization into a “Not-for-Profit” Foundation. The Fernandez Foundation has several initiatives that help deliver evidence-based and equitable care for women and children:

  • Fernandez Hospitals and Outpatient Clinics
  • Stork Home Hospital
  • Fernandez Child Development Centre
  • Professional Midwifery Services (PROMISE)
  • Fernandez School of Nursing

Dr Evita’s vision through the Fernandez Foundation is to ensure every pregnant woman has access to midwifery care and only if required, will seek collaborative care from obstetricians and other specialists.
