On 27th and 28th February, we had the pleasure of hosting several dignitaries from UNICEF India and UNICEF UK. Ms Cynthia McCaffrey, recently appointed as the UNICEF Representative to India and her team visited our Midwife-led Unit at Bogulkunta and Telangana’s public health facilities. They observed how midwives trained by Fernandez are implementing the midwifery philosophy and respectful maternity care in different settings.

On Twitter, Ms Cynthia shared this about her visit: “On my second day in Hyderabad, a visit to the Fernandez Foundation and Government Area Hospital, Nampally showed me pioneering work in the UNICEF- supported midwifery programme piloted in Telangana and which is now nationally recognized. The dedicated staff demonstrated the powerful impact of dignified births for both mothers and their babies.”

Key officials from UNICEF UK met with Dr Evita, Dr Pramod, Indie, Dr Radha, and their teams to discuss plans to strengthen midwifery-led care across India.
