Several premature babies lack
access to their mother’s milk.
This leaves them
susceptible to infection
and death.
India records the highest number of preterm births in the world. 3.5 million babies born every year face the risk of stunting and development delay. In addition, if the mother is sick, or has temporary lactation challenges, the baby does not feed on breast milk.

How it
Works
- Lactating mothers (who volunteer) are screened for health behaviours and communicable diseases
- They pump extra milk (after feeding their babies) into special containers
- Stored in sterile steel containers at 4-8 degrees
- Pasteurised by Pretoria holder method at 63 degree Celcius for 30 minutes
- Stored at -20 degrees celcius while being tested for bacterial culture
- If the report is negative, the milk is approved and transferred to another freezer
- When needed, the milk is thawed and given to the sick baby using a cup or palada
