Midwifery-led care
The Birthing Champion Every Mother Needs
Midwives are steadfast companions to mothers, who are accountable for two lives.
They are highly skilled specialists who support and advice mothers, and advocate for them through their pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum journey.
As professionally trained specialists they have the expertise in natural birthing as well as the ability to detect medical complications during the entire journey.
Midwives practice a collaborative approach to care that is a deliberate departure from the doctor-led model of care that often leads to unnecessary, unethical medical interventions for low-risk women.
Countries whose maternal healthcare systems are built around midwives have recorded a significant decrease in maternal and infant mortality and morbidity.
Midwives are crucial to our vision of delivering respectful, equitable care to mothers across the country.

In 2011, after studying global best practices, we introduced a pilot midwifery programme.
We realised that midwifery could revolutionise maternal care in India — improving quality of care and ensuring affordability for mothers.
The pilot programme evolved into an integral service at the hospital and the promotion of midwifery became a cause dear to the Foundation.

Our hospitals also welcome obstetricians who want to spend a few days to understand midwifery care.
